In the heart of our communities, a transformative journey is unfolding. Bethel Children’s Center, an organization dedicated to the holistic development of children, is expanding its reach across Sri Lanka with a singular, powerful vision: "Let us prepare children for success in life".
Originally established as the Bethel Children’s Development Center, the project flourished for 13 years under the guidance of Compassion Lanka and the Bethel Church. Since June 13, 2022, it has evolved into the Bethel Children’s Center, a nationwide initiative working hand-in-hand with state institutions to uplift the youth.
A Vision Beyond Education
While academic success is a pillar of their work, Bethel Children’s Center believes that true success requires a more profound foundation. Their mission focuses on:
- Personality & Moral Growth: Paving the way for spiritual and moral development within a nurtured family background.
- Safety and Protection: Freeing children from the shadows of abuse and insecurity, ensuring they grow up with the respect and love they deserve.
- Altruistic Thinking: Cultivating "pioneers of altruistic thinking" who can eventually use their own success to light the way for others.
Real Impact: From Seethawaka to Trincomalee
The center’s impact is measured in the lives of the 750+ members currently active in the Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat and the hundreds more joining in districts like Puttalam, Badulla, and Nuwara Eliya.
The organization doesn't just talk about change; they implement it through diverse programs:
- Educational Support: Providing essential tuition in Computer Science, English, Mathematics, and Scholarship preparation.
- Health & Nutrition: Hosting dental clinics and providing mid-day meals to children from low-income families.
- Community Care: Extending support beyond children by donating wheelchairs to those disabled by accidents and introducing home gardening initiatives for families.
The Road Ahead: Building Self-Sufficient Families
A unique aspect of Bethel’s approach is the focus on the family unit. They recognize that a child’s environment is key to their growth. By advising parents on economic development and building healthy, self-sufficient households, they are creating a sustainable cycle of success.
As the center moves toward registration as a National NGO—already backed by recommendations from District Secretaries in Colombo, Nuwara Eliya, and Trincomalee—their goal remains clear: ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has the skills, the safety, and the spirit to win at life.
"Our mission is to produce a pioneer... who can give light to many other lives."
How can you help? Bethel Children’s Center continues to expand into new districts like Anuradhapura, Jaffna, and Galle. By supporting their local initiatives—whether through volunteerism or resources—you become a part of a movement that is preparing the leaders of tomorrow.
