When we look at a beautiful, flourishing garden, our eyes are naturally drawn to what is visible: the vibrant petals, the green leaves, and the sweet fruit. But any experienced gardener knows a secret—the true health of a plant isn't decided by its flowers, but by its roots hidden deep beneath the soil.
This season, the Blooming Bethel spiritual program is stepping into an exciting new theme: Unseen Roots. We are taking the children at Bethel Children’s Center on a journey to discover that the most important growth happens where no one else can see.
This Season's New Topics
To help our children build a strong, authentic inner life, we are introducing three powerful new discussion topics:
1. Growing in the Secret Place (Personal Devotion)
It is easy to do the right thing when everyone is watching, but true character is formed in the quiet, unseen moments. We are exploring what it means to pray, read the Word, and reflect when we are alone. By establishing a personal, private connection with God, children learn that they don't need constant praise from the world to be deeply valued and loved.
2. The Anchor of Identity (Standing Firm)
In a world that constantly changes and tells us who we should be, our children need a firm anchor. This topic focuses on grounding our identity entirely in God’s truth rather than external circumstances or trends. When children know exactly whose they are, they gain the confidence to stand firm in their values, even when peer pressure or worldly distractions try to pull them away.
3. Nourishment from Good Soil (Choosing Influences Wisely)
A seed can only grow as good as the soil it is planted in. We are teaching the children how to evaluate the things they absorb every day—the media they consume, the words they listen to, and the company they keep. By learning to guard their hearts and choose positive, life-giving influences, they ensure their inner roots are drinking from a clean, healthy source.
Interactive Activities for This Series
We are bringing these spiritual truths to life through creative, practical experiences:
- The Root Observation Project: Children will plant seeds in clear containers, allowing them to watch how the roots must stretch down and anchor themselves firmly before the first green sprout ever breaks through the surface.
- My Identity Shield: A creative art workshop where children design a personal shield inscribed with biblical truths about who they are, serving as a visual reminder to guard their hearts against negative external voices.
- The Unseen Kindness Challenge: A weekly challenge where children are encouraged to perform random acts of kindness for others completely in secret, experiencing the pure joy of giving without expecting recognition.
"Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream..."
— Jeremiah 17:7-8
