In a fast-paced world, it is easy to focus entirely on our own tasks and goals. However, the true beauty of life is found in how we connect with, support, and lift up those around us. This season, the Blooming Bethel spiritual program is launching an inspiring new theme for the children at Bethel Children’s Center: Cultivating Kindness.
Just as a garden thrives when every plant is given care, our community flourishes when we intentionally spread kindness, compassion, and joy in our everyday lives.
This Season's Core Pillars
To help our children grow into thoughtful, loving individuals, this series focuses on three fresh, life-giving topics:
1. The Language of Encouragement (Words that Build Up)
Words have immense power—they can either tear someone down or build them up. We are exploring the importance of speaking life, truth, and encouragement to one another. Children are learning to recognize when a peer needs a kind word, a smile, or a simple "you can do it," discovering how small phrases can completely change someone's day.
2. Joy in the Hidden Actions (Secret Generosity)
True kindness doesn’t look for an audience or demand a reward. This topic guides children to experience the pure joy of helping others purely for the sake of making the world a better place. Whether it's helping tidy up a room without being asked or sharing a toy in secret, they are discovering that the best kind of giving is done with a humble heart.
3. Being a Bridge of Peace (Resolving Conflicts with Love)
Disagreements are a natural part of life, but how we handle them matters. We are teaching our children how to be peacemakers. Through gentle guidance, they are learning to listen to others' feelings, say "I'm sorry" when necessary, and use patience and love to solve problems rather than anger.
Hands-On Activities for This Series
We are bringing these lessons to life through practical, engaging daily practices at the center:
- The Kindness Tree: A beautiful display where children can hang colorful "leaves" whenever they witness an act of kindness, watching the tree bloom with love over the coming weeks.
- The Daily Affirmation Circle: A morning routine where children take a moment to look at a peer and share one positive, genuine compliment, setting a joyful tone for the rest of the day.
- The "Pass-It-On" Challenge: A fun weekly game where a child who receives an unexpected act of kindness is challenged to "pay it forward" by doing something kind for someone else before the day ends.
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."
— 1 Thessalonians 5:11
By teaching our children to cultivate kindness today, we are planting seeds for a more compassionate, loving tomorrow. We look forward to watching these young hearts bloom beautifully as they reflect God's love to everyone they meet.
